Q: What is the MCHA?
A: The Marine Corps Historical Association is a civilian not for profit organization formed with the express goal of bringing a uniform standard to Marine reenactors world-wide by offering a series of courses and workshops taught by Marines.
Q: I'm a Marine/Navy Corpsman. Why should I be interested in your group?
A: The MCHA needs your help. Marines and Navy Corpsman, who have earned the Combat Action Ribbon, are needed to instruct reenactors and youth, on the proper way to look the part while conducting a living history event.
Q: Do I have to be a Marine to join your group?
A: No. All those who intend to honor the Marine Corps, through learning, research, living-history, collecting, or reenacting are welcome.
Q: If you guys are there to "honor" the Marines, why don't you just join up?
A: Living historians and reenactors may not be able to serve in an active duty capacity for many reasons. Nevertheless they want to portray, through living history and at educational events, Marines from the past. Receiving instruction form Marines/Corpsman is one of the best ways to ensure a standard in the manner and conduct of reenactors.
Q: Is your group a militia or recruiting organization?
A: No. The MCHA is neither a recruiting tool for the armed services, nor a militia of any kind. The MCHA is formed to honor our servicemen and women and is a patriotic educational organization.
Q: How do you determine a "Service Number"?
A: Regular Members are issued a seven digit MCHA Service Number. The first two numbers signify the home state (in order of joining the US), the second two are the year you joined, the remaining three digits are unique to the MCHA.
example: SN/ 0109947 (Delaware ie: 01, the year (20)09, then three unique digits)
Q: What is membership?
A: There are different classifications of membership. Each class has benefits and responsibilities unique unto itself. Classifications are: Regular, Associate, Affiliate, Honorary, Life, Student and Team Member. Please check the Bylaws for a full explanation of membership types, benefits and responsibilities.
Q: I am part of a reenacting team. What do you offer me/us?
A: Becoming a member of the MCHA gives you many things. Firstly, allows your team to train with the best. The MCHA operates Camp Basilone, and hosts annual schools that enable your team to hone skills under the tutelage of United States Marines. Secondly, the MCHA provides a standard of conduct and appearance for reenactors to follow which is based upon the Marine Corps. You can be assured that all Regular Members of the MCHA will look the part that they are portraying. Lastly, camaraderie cannot be understated. You're sharing knowledge and gaining a network of like-minded souls. Additionally, the MCHA hosts a "Marine reenactor-Ball" at an historic location each year. _________________ Interim Commanding Officer/Executive Director
